As a Professional Magician in Cambridge myself, there were many great insights into seeing how others perform, and learning the small details that will allow me to continue to improve, but the highlight by a considerable distance was a performance by a magician called Yu Ho Jin. On the Friday night, he stole the show with his beautiful act and deservedly received a standing ovation. To top it off, he was even invited back on the Saturday evening to perform the same routine again (something which is unheard of) and once again deservedly received a standing ovation that brought him to tears. On Saturday 28th May 20011, I was asked to perform close up Magic for the guests of Bassingbourns Armed Service Appreciation black tie event. Bassingbourn in Cambridgeshire has a large army barracks, and it was a great evening with an amazing 3 course dinner, fun and games, a charity auction and a fantastic comedian.

Emceeing the event was James Redford, the ex Hollyoaks and Casualty star, who has recently taken a break from acting to pursue a career in stand up comedy. He kept some 200 guests entertained with his own laid back friendly style as well as finding time to tell a few jokes too.

In between the 3 courses of the meal, I had the opportunity to interact with the guests performing table magic, and as a Magician in Cambridgeshire this is one of my favourite settings to perform at. Performing card tricks, making sponge balls appear from nowhere, and making watches vanish is a great way to get the whole table talking with each other and having fun!

Lets start with what magic is to me – “Magic is a performing art that entertains an audience by creating illusions of seemingly impossible or supernatural feats, using purely natural means. These feats are called magic tricks, effects or illusions.

So what kind of a magican am I? To be honest, I don’t think you can always label someone as ONLY a certain type of performer. I like to use a blend of card tricks, mentalism and mind reading, as well as rope magic, coin magic, and a few others which can’t be categorised

Having all these different avenues available means that I can be completely flexible. If I am performing at a corporate trade show then I can utilise tricks that include the company products, however if I am performing at a wedding then I can adapt my performance to the setting and amount of guests for example.

Performing as a Wedding Magician in Cambridgeshire means I am asked to perform at lots of different venues from universities colleges to social clubs, and each event is completely unique and I like to make sure that EVERY guest leaves having experienced their version of what magic is….

There are so many benefits to having a magician perform at your wedding, and there are a few options availabl to you too.

Just imagine, your beautiful ceremony has just finished and you’ve made your way back down the aisle and found yourself getting covered in confetti. You’re suddenly whisked away by the photography to have your photos taken with your new husband or wife, and your guests make their way to the reception venue. Now what? You will probably find that at most weddings, the two sides of the family tend to stay within their own sides, and these two sides are then split up into different factions again. As a wedding magician here in Cambridgeshire, London and the surrounding areas, one of the most frequent requests is to perform during this phase in order to keep everyone entertained. when performing tricks, people can’t help but speak with each other and start to interact, causing all of your guests to become relaxed and more social. By the time you arrive, you will be wondering what’s been going on thats got them so excited!

The next most common request is to perform when your guests are seated, in between the courses of the wedding breakfast itself. This again can help fill those voids where the food is being taken away and guests are left wondering what to say to each if they don’t know each other. Once the next course is being brought out, the wedding magician quietly disappears and awaits the next phase, making sure every table has had a chance to enjoy the magic on offer.

The final request may be to perform casual walk-about magic during the evening party itself. Here your guests may be starting to let themselves go, talking amongst themselves and finding the magic can be taken in a more relaxed manner.
